You’ve read all the advice about work-life balance, time management, prioritizing writing, and so on. But you’re still struggling. Maybe old habits are hard to break. Maybe your life just seems way too busy. Perhaps your imposter syndrome is whispering “you can’t do it.”

One-on-one coaching services are perfect for gaining clarity, reconnecting to your motivation, setting concrete action steps, and making real changes to the way you approach work and life. Coaching offers personalized support and guidance tailored to your unique needs.

Leslie was really attuned to my struggles and achievements, had a lovely warmth and a great sense of humor (aka she laughed at all my jokes!) and really helped me focus towards my goals. We spoke a lot about the peculiarities of academia and my own emotional challenges, and I left our time together feeling shored up (and with an action plan for my next project)!

Getting started

First, you’re always welcome to reach out over email to ask questions. You can check out my blog to learn more about my expertise. This post will tell you how academics can benefit from coaching. And this guide breaks down what coaching does, and why it’s different from therapy or consulting.

Second, you can book a free Strategy Session call.

During our call, I’ll ask you about where you are in your career and the challenges you’re facing, as well as what changes you hope to make. You can ask me questions about my background and coaching services. After the call, I’ll send you a summary of our conversation via email along with some options for moving forward, which you can consider on your own time.

Signature 3 Month Coaching Package

This package might be right for you if you are:

  • struggling to balance and prioritize tasks, goals, and life in general
  • feeling overworked
  • not clear on the next set of goals for your career stage
  • needing support creating and executing a plan for a specific project
  • feeling isolated during a major project or career transition
  • lacking access to supportive or effective mentors and advisors
  • looking for non-judgmental support and a thinking partner to help you move toward the goals that matter to you

Why 3 months? It’s a nice amount of time to start to make noticeable progress, but not so much time that you’re tempted to put off digging into your goals.

What results can you expect?

  • more confidence moving in the direction of your goals and dreams
  • enhanced clarity of purpose
  • improved ability to prioritize work in ways that match your values
  • access to an increased range of strategies and tools for organization, time management, email, etc.
  • a better sense of how your strengths and skills align with your goals and priorities
  • a greater understanding of what motivates you and how to work with (not against) this
  • improved confidence in decision-making

“I worked with Leslie for three months through the coaching program. I was feeling a little stuck post tenure and was looking for guidance in making career decisions. My conversations with Leslie helped me to understand how to frame my strengths in my current position, which would be useful when searching for a new position.”

The 3 month package includes: up to 7 50-minute coaching sessions (based on meeting about every 2 weeks); typed and well-organized notes from each session; email check-ins and support; and resources such as further reading or worksheets, if desired and relevant.

3 Month Package fee: $1475 (student/postdoc/adjunct/unemployed discount: $999)

Please note: I now charge GST/HST (sales tax) on all services. For Canadian residents, the rate matches your province of residence. For US and international residents, the tax rate is 0%.

Single coaching session

If you need support to work through a specific decision or problem, make a progress plan for a project, or gain clarity on a challenge you’re facing, a single session can often be enough.

Single calls are also great if you want occasional support on an “as-needed” basis.

You can expect a focused conversation with direct questions geared toward helping you meet your goal for the session. After, you’ll be more prepared to make a decision or take steps toward solving a problem.

The call includes a 50-minute session via Zoom or phone, and typed, organized notes sent within 24 hours of the call.

Single session fee: $190 (student/postdoc/adjunct/unemployed rate: $150)

Please note: I now charge GST/HST (sales tax) on all services. For Canadian residents, the rate matches your province of residence. For US and international residents, the tax rate is 0%.

“When I reached out to Leslie, I was nearing the end of my doctoral program and struggling to communicate with the members of my advisory committee. Leslie helped me figure out what I wanted from meetings with my advisers, she gave me strategies for responding to feedback, and she helped me stand up for myself. Her coaching was been a vital source of much-needed support during a really challenging time in my studies. I would enthusiastically recommend her services to anyone.”

Custom packages

Custom packages might include a combination of coaching sessions and developmental editing work (e.g., reviewing a grant proposal or article). Or, if you have a set budget we can discuss what number of sessions or level of support would match that budget. A free strategy session is a great opportunity to discuss options.

Professional expense accounts

For faculty with access to professional expense/professional development accounts, you may be able to get reimbursed for services like coaching as they relate to your career. Check with your institution. I provide invoices and receipts for all payments.
